Overview:
This project builds on previous work conducted by the Forest Ecosystem Monitoring Cooperative. Through its “Continuous Forest Inventory Program Comparison Tool”, FEMC assessed the methods and comparability of 10 CFI programs from the Northeast. Our team is building off this initial work in developing NEFIN. This product will (ongoing) provide forest managers and researchers a framework to aggregate and store standardized long-term forest inventory data that would offer numerous benefits to management and future research.
As a NEFIN team member, I provided data analysis and visualization of the desired database outputs and postulated the research applications and overall applicability usability of the final product. This included database standardization and normalization via custom python script which dealt with in-programmatic standardization through metadata meshing and field scalarization.
Products:
Metadata and programmatic standardization framework
Guidance for desired data structures and user-targeted features
Demonstrated standardized metrics and visualization
Explored research applications
